Santa Muerte on Throne with Scythe and Scales - Colored by Veronese

La Santa Muerte ("Holy Death") is a female figure called for love, happiness, protection and health, especially in Central and Latin America. Like our figure, this death goddess is depicted as a female skeleton in magnificent robes with a scythe in hand. In the other hand, she holds a scale that is said to stand for the justice of death, the globe symbolizes the ubiquity of death on earth. The white owl is one of the animals associated with Mictlantecahtli, the Lord of the Dead. According to popular interpretation, Santa Muerte is seen as a "holy death", as the cult includes prayers for the deceased. She is especially celebrated at the Dia de los Muertos in Mexico. The figure is cast from artificial stone and elaborately painted by hand.
